Which Groom is Best Suited To Me and My Dog?

Our dog grooming guide is designed to give you a better understanding of which groom may suit yours and your pooch’s needs.

When deciding which groom is best for you it is important to consider not only their breed, coat type and coat condition, but also what kind of lifestyle you have.

For example, if you like to keep your pooch’s hair long, however they spend a lot of time in bodies of water and you can’t find the time to give them a thorough brush through when you get home, then your most suitable options would be:

A. Give your pooch a short, back and sides and attend regular 8 weekly grooms.

B. Opt for the longer hair style, however, you’ll need to book your pup in for maintenance bath & brush/bath & tidy up appointments every 2-3 weeks as well as 6-8 weekly full grooms. We can then keep on top of any knots and tangles for you.

In our grooming guide below we have listed some breeds that commonly receive the services. However, please be aware as all dogs are unique, the breeds we have listed (for the purpose of examples) are including but not limited to.

Full Groom

For a full body haircut, every 4-8 weeks.
This is the most popular service. It is suitable for the majority of breeds, with the exception of short haired breeds (French Bulldogs, Labradors etc) and double coated breeds (German Shepherds, Golden Retrievers etc) as they don’t require full body trims.

For a de-shed &/or profile trim, it is beneficial to be done every 2-3 months in order to best maintain their comfort and coat condition. However, it depends on each individual dog.

Suitable for double coated breeds (Pomeranians, German Shepherds etc).

Hand Strip Groom

Every 2-6 months depending on owners preference.
Two options for this are:
A) We can strip the coat in a ‘rolling’ method, where we keep on top of it regularly (every 2 months or so) and only strip the longer grown out parts of the jacket.
B) We can let the entire coat grow out and then remove all at once (every 6 months or so).

This groom is commonly for Terriers, Spaniels and Schnauzers to name a few.

If your dog has been hand-stripped before but has been clipped since, it may not be possible to return to hand stripping. Older, neutered, or dogs with skin issues may not be suited for hand stripping due to hormonal changes, making clipping a more comfortable option. After meeting your dog, we can recommend the best grooming service for them.

Bath and Brush

For a main groom, as much as the dog requires/owners preference, however should not exceed once per week. For maintenance grooms, these should be scheduled every 2-4 weeks in between full grooms.

Perfect for all breeds. Also a great maintenance option in between full grooms.

Bath and Tidy Up

For a main groom, as much as the dog requires/owners preference, however should not exceed once per week. For maintenance grooms, these should be scheduled every 2-4 weeks in between full grooms.

Suitable for dogs that have some long hair, however don’t require an all over trim up (Long haired Chihuahuas, unclipped/unstripped Spaniels etc). Also perfect for maintenance appointments in between full grooms.

Bath and Towel Dry

As much as the dog requires/owners preference, however should not exceed once per week.

Better for short haired breeds, as long haired breeds benefit more from a bath and brush out in order to prevent matting.

Puppy Groom

Once your puppy is fully vaccinated, they can start puppy intro grooms. It’s ideal to have at least 3 intro grooms before a full groom to ensure comfort, however some puppies may be ready for a haircut on their first visit if they’re at ease. It all depends on your pooch.

A gentle introduction to grooming, perfect for puppies! Grooming is essential for all breeds, even short-haired dogs like Dachshunds and Boxers. Puppy grooms help your dog get used to bathing, drying, nail clipping, and interacting with new people and pets. To prepare, handle their ears, feet, and nails, and use a vibrating toothbrush to familiarize them with clippers. Go slow, reward with treats, and enjoy the bonding experience!

Ultrasonic Teeth Cleaning

Ultrasonic teeth cleaning has been proven to remove many dogs plaque build up, often quite drastically. There are different contributing factors and it completely depends on your dog, both for how much they are happy to tolerate the process and their actual results.

Initially your pet may require two appointments, the second appointment will be two weeks after your first and this will be to ensure all of the build up that can be removed, has been. From here your pooch should have their teeth cleaned (on average) every 3 months. If you exceed the recommended timeframe for follow ups and your dog has excessive build up, you will be charged accordingly.
